Lithium battery

High-power, water-cooled UV LED curing for electrode sheet markings and coatings, with segmented control and quick-change heads.

High-power water-cooled Awellcure UV LED area light source switched on, its dense LED array glowing violet

Power battery production marks electrode sheets with inkjet-printed identification codes, and those markings have to cure quickly and safely on a high-speed line. Area light sources are also used to cure electrode coatings. Awellcure entered battery applications in 2023 and 2024 with high-power water-cooled UV LED sources, and is expanding its research for power batteries in 2025 and 2026.

The challenge

  • Speed: traditional curing uses a lot of energy and heats up slowly, so it struggles to keep pace with high-speed lines.
  • Electrode quality: heat or uneven irradiation can damage the electrode coating, which affects battery performance and yield.
  • Downtime: volatile compounds from the ink contaminate equipment, which leads to frequent stops for maintenance.

The Awellcure solution

Awellcure builds customised high-power, water-cooled UV LED systems for this process.

  • Integrated control: a compact control box coordinates several lamp heads and sets intensity and time in milliseconds, to match high-speed lines.
  • Quick-change heads: water and electrical connections are kept separate, and a pull-out double glass window lets you change a head in one minute, cutting downtime.
  • Segmented irradiation: each section of the lamp head module is controlled separately, so the irradiated area can be matched to the part. This saves energy and protects surrounding components.
  • Engineering delivery: a standardised process from design to handover keeps the line running reliably.

Why water cooling

High-power UV LEDs concentrate their heat in a small area. If the LED junction gets hot, output drops, the wavelength drifts away from the ink's absorption peak and the LEDs age quickly. Water cooling removes that heat, keeping irradiance stable and the service life long.
